PATHS in Portland goes into brief lockdown Monday due to threat

A juvenile male was taken into custody and charged with terrorizing, Portland police said.

PORTLAND, Maine — A juvenile male is in custody after Portland Arts and Technology High School (PATHS) went into lockdown Monday afternoon due to an alleged threat.

The Portland Police Department said in a news release officers were called to PATHS/Casco Bay High School just before 2 p.m. after a student had allegedly made threatening comments to the high school online during the afternoon.

The school was reportedly placed into lockdown out of an abundance of caution and police arrived to investigate.

At 2:43 p.m., Portland police said on social media that the lockdown was lifted and the school returned to normal operations.

Officers also responded to the Riverton neighborhood and placed a juvenile male in custody, police said in the news release. The male was reportedly brought to the Longcreek Youth Development Facility and faces terrorizing charges.
