PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Commercial Street is at the bottom of the hill of many of Portland's main streets; that is the reason for all the problems.
Water, water everywhere. That's how it felt. So much water, so quickly, that it overwhelmed the storm sewers and came gushing out into the streets.
Traffic was tied up in some places, working around flooded spots. In other places, like the corner of Commercial and Maple Streets, there was no getting through.
The water rose to well over a foot deep. Driving was tough, and drivers often had to look for sudden detours. Walking was even harder. People made the best of it...some even seemed to enjoy it.
