Portland police search for vehicle after motorcyclist seriously injured crash

A 36-year-old man was brought to Maine Medical Center with "life-threatening injuries" following a hit-and-run crash Monday evening.

PORTLAND, Maine — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash at the intersection of Brighton Avenue and St. John Street in Portland Monday evening, and now police are trying to locate a car they say may have been involved.

Portland police said in a news release a 36-year-old motorcyclist was traveling west on Brighton Avenue and laid the motorcycle down "for an unknown reason."

A car headed east on Brighton Avenue turned left onto Noyes Street and struck the motorcyclist, police said. The driver then fled the scene. 

Police said they responded to the crash around 5:10 p.m., and the motorcyclist was brought to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed at this time, police said. 

Those with information regarding the crash are asked to call the Portland Police Department at 207-874-8532 or 207-874-8575. Police believe a Honda Fit may have been the car involved, and they released the photo below in hopes that members of the public could assist them in locating it.

NEWS CENTER Maine had a crew at the scene who observed one motorcycle lying on its side in the middle of the Brighton Avenue and St. John Street intersection. A Portland Police Department Crime Scene Unit vehicle and multiple officers were at the scene.
