PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) – The City of Portland is getting ready to roll out their new purple pay-as-you-throw trash bags, which will be available at local retailers starting July 5.
The new trash bags will cost $1.35 per 15 gallon bag or $2.70 per 30 gallon bag.
For 90 days Portland residents can use any remaining blue trash bags and/or exchange their blue bags for purple bags at several different locations.
If you choose to exchange bags, you must pay the price difference.
The City said blue or purple bags will be accepted at the curb until Oct. 4, 2015.
You can exchanged your blue bags for purple at these following locations:
· Public Services, 55 Portland St.
· City Hall, Treasury Office, 1st floor, 389 Congress St.
· Riverside Golf Course, 1158 Riverside St.
