Marine officials recover body found in Casco Bay

Officials said the body was found Friday morning by a recreational fisherman about 100 yards off Chebeague Island.

PORTLAND, Maine — A body was recovered Friday morning from Casco Bay off Chebeague Island, according to state officials.

Maine Marine Patrol was notified by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office around 9:18 a.m. about a body in the water about 100 yards away from the end of Indian Point Road on the island, the Maine Department of Marine Resources said in a news release.

Marine officials said the body of the unidentified man was discovered by a recreational fisherman, who reported it to authorities.

The Maine Marine Patrol recovered the body from Casco Bay at about 10:30 a.m. The body was initially taken to a local funeral home before being transferred to the chief medical examiner's office for confirmation of identification, the release said.

The Falmouth Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and harbor masters from Falmouth and Yarmouth assisted in the response.
