Portage Lake woman killed in snowmobile crash

PORTAGE LAKE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Maine Game Wardens say a Portage Lake woman was killed on Saturday afternoon in a snowmobile crash.

Wardens say at around 3:45 p.m., 50-year-old Denise Beaulieu was fatally injured in a single snowmobile crash on Carr Pond, which is west of the Town of Portage Lake.

Beaulieu was operating an Arctic Cat snowmobile at a high rate of speed on Carr Pond when she attempted to exit the lake on a trail that led to a parking lot, officials say.

Beaulieu struck a snowbank that caused her and her snowmobile to become airborne into several trees. Beaulieu was pronounced dead at the scene by Ashland Recue.

Officials say she was wearing a helmet and speed appears to be a contributing factor in this crash. She had been attending a social function at a camp on Carr Pond with friends.
