Police respond to an incident in Portland's Kennedy Park

Roughly a dozen police cars responded to the area of Fox Street after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

PORTLAND, Maine — As many as a dozen Portland police cruisers responded to an incident at Kennedy Park late Wednesday night.

Officers were seen in riot gear and carrying rifles in the area of the athletic fields and basketball court off of Fox Street.

Police on scene would not share any information with NEWS CENTER Maine. At least one man was seen being detained.

At around 11:15 p.m., several fireworks were launched in the area not far from responding officers.

The incident played out just over an hour after the city's rescheduled July Fourth fireworks display on the Eastern Promenade.

NEWS CENTER Maine reached out to a spokesperson with the Portland Police Department for comment, but we did not immediately hear back.

This is a developing story, and will be updated as we learn more information.
