RUMFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police are searching for a man than allegedly assaulted and robbed another person in Rumford Monday night.
Police said the victim had gone to Rumford to meet a friend when Randall Chapman, 37, assaulted him. Police said Chapman robbed the victim of his cash and then forced him at knifepoint to drive to an ATM and withdraw money. Police said while driving to an ATM, the victim saw two police cars parked near the Labonville store in Mexico. The victim pulled into the lot, beeped his horn, and yelled for help. Police said Chapman then slashed the victim's face and fled the car, heading toward the river.
Rumford, Mexico and Dixfield officers looked for Chapman along Androscoggin River near the Veterans Memorial Bridge. Oxford county Sheriff and Maine State Police also helped with the extensive search of the river bank, but they did not locate Chapman.
Chapman is from Rumford and police are still looking for him. Rumford Police are asking the public to alert police if they know his whereabouts. Police said Chapman should not be approached and they consider him to be armed and dangerous.
