RICHMOND, Maine — Richmond Middle and High School went into lockdown on Tuesday morning after a student reportedly brought an air gun to school.
Other students reported the gun to school staff, leading school officials and Richmond Police Chief James Donnell to investigate the situation, Richmond Superintendent Bob Webster told NEWS CENTER Maine.
The gun was confiscated and the student was interviewed. Webster did not say whether the student was removed from school or not.
Webster said it seemed to be less of a threat and more of a lack of judgement on the student's part. Nonetheless, he said students did the right thing by alerting authorities.
Nearby Marcia Buker Elementary School was under a shelter-in-place until the incident was resolved, Webster said.
The schools resumed normal operations after about an hour.
