CUMBERLAND, Maine — Police are investigating multiple crashes on the Maine Turnpike that happened Sunday morning in the Gray area.
The Cumberland Fire Department was called to the area of mile marker 60 for a reported crash involving two tractor-trailer vehicles with possible entrapment and injuries, according to a Facebook post from the department.
Upon arrival, crews found both tractor-trailers were "completely blocking the highway." The trucks were reportedly evaluated by Gray Fire Rescue Heavy Rescue 47 for leaking fluids.
Two other crashes were reported in the northbound lane south of the crash involving two tractor-trailers while crews were responding, the Cumberland Fire Department said. Falmouth Fire-EMS and Cumberland Fire Department members responded to the additional crashes.
Maine State Police is investigating those crashes.
Just after 11 a.m., the Maine Turnpike Authority reported a motor vehicle crash between Exit 53 in Falmouth and Exit 63 in Gray. Both north and southbound lanes were closed, and travelers were advised to expect delays and use caution in the area.
Due to snow conditions, speed limits for the full length of the Maine Turnpike have been reduced to 45 mph, according to a Facebook post from the Maine Turnpike Authority. Drivers are asked to travel with caution.
