STEUBEN, Maine — One person was killed in a crash Sunday afternoon on Unionville Road in Steuben, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Sunday in a news release.
The identity of the deceased will not be released as officials work to notify next of kin.
According to the release, the initial investigation by police indicates the car went airborne while traveling over a hill, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and hit a large tree on the passenger side of the car.
The passenger of the car was found dead at the scene.
Police said the driver went to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. However, police believe speed was a factor.
