A second individual escaped the fire with minor injuries, police said.

WINDSOR, Maine — Police have identified the body of a 25-year-old person who died as a result of a fire in Windsor on Tuesday.

The Windsor Fire Department responded to a home on Ridge Road after a caller reported a fire at the residence, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

One person was found dead in a camper trailer on the property as a result of the fire, Moss said. The individual was identified as 25-year-old Payson Viles. A second person was reportedly able to escape the fire with minor injuries.

Viles' body was brought to the chief medical examiner's office in Augusta. The state fire marshal's office is continuing to process the scene.

Moss said there is "no indication of foul play at this time."

The Windsor, Whitefield, Jefferson, and Somerville fire departments responded to the scene with Delta Rescue and the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, Moss said.

Moss told NEWS CENTER Maine the state has seen six fire deaths in the last six days. So far this year, there have been 22 fire deaths, compared to 19 total fire deaths in 2022, Moss said.
