ELLSWORTH, Maine — Police are investigating after human skeletal remains were found in Ellsworth Tuesday morning.
At approximately 8:55 a.m., Ellsworth police notified Maine State Police that human skeletal remains were found, according to a news release from Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Commercial land surveyors found the remains in the woods off Red Bridge Road, Moss said.
The remains were brought to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
Moss said there is no danger to the public.
The investigation is ongoing. The Maine State Police Major Crimes unit responded to assist.
