MAINE, USA — Strong storms are sweeping across the state on Thursday, bringing hail and heavy rain to some areas.
This comes as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the northern and eastern half of the state, which remains in effect until 7 p.m. The watch includes areas of Aroostook, Hancock, Penobscot, and Washington Counties.
The NWS said nickel-sized hail and up to 60 mph wind gusts were possible.
NEWS CENTER Maine meteorologist Keith Carson anticipates storm activity to be short-lived on Thursday, with conditions settling down by sunset.
Mt. Abram ski resort in Greenwood said on social media Thursday afternoon their opening will be delayed Friday due to heavy rains. Trail crews are working to clean up, and a final update is expected Friday morning, the resort said.
