ABBOT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The father of Stephanie Ginn Gebo, who police said was killed by her ex-boyfriend in Parkman last month, is speaking out about the investigation into her death.
Police said Ginn Gebo's ex-boyfriend, Robert Burton, broke into her house and killed her in June. A manhunt for Burton in the Parkman Guilford area is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Gebo's father, Vance Ginn, is upset at remarks Piscataquis County Sheriff, John Goggin, made to a Bangor TV station last week.
Based on what police and his grandchildren have told him about what happened the morning of his daughter's death, Ginn believes the facts the sheriff cited are wrong.
He's even worried the state's case against Burton could be weakened by what the Goggin said. In the interview, Goggin said Burton climbed through a window, Gebo shot him with a handgun and wounded him. Then the two fought, the gun got away from Gebo and he shot and killed her.
Ginn said there's no way to know whether or not Burton had a weapon when he entered his daughter's house. He also said Burton didn't "lose it," as Goggin said, but thought so far ahead about the crime that he made sure he could get back in the house to kill Gebo.
Ginn feels so strongly about this he thinks the sheriff should retire.
"He said that he was only there to kidnap," Ginn told NEWS CENTER. "He didn't know that. That's all on his assumption. That's what he assumed happen. We all know what assume does. It doesn't make a very good case."
State police spokesman, Steve McCausland, said Goggin's remarks were inappropriate, but declined to discuss whether they were inaccurate or not because the investigation is ongoing and he won't comment on any of its facts.
NEWS CENTER tried to contact Sheriff Goggin multiple times but have still not heard back from him.
