The need for food is higher now than during the pandemic due to inflation, high costs of living, and the reduction of the pandemic-era SNAP benefits.
A sampling of partner pantries across the state reported at least a 35% increase in people seeking food assistance between 2022 and 2023, including a 15% increase in overall households served.
In response to Mainer's needs, Good Shepherd Food Bank and its partners distributed a record 33.6 million meals last year, including nearly 480,000 meals designed to meet the needs of different cultures across the state through the use of ingredients like halal meats, red palm oil, and corn meal flour.
Together with Good Shepherd Food Bank, we can help families and individuals across Maine who struggle to put food on their tables year-round. Every donation, even $1, can help provide two meals for a Mainer in need.
Good Shepherd Food Bank works to eliminate hunger in Maine by improving access to nutritious and culturally relevant food for people in need, building strong community partnerships, and mobilizing the public in the fight to end hunger.
Over the past seven years, NEWS CENTER Maine viewers have helped raise more than $1.7 million to support Good Shepherd Food Bank and neighbors across Maine experiencing food insecurity.
Your generosity makes it possible for the Food Bank and Maine's charitable food network to provide healthy meals to Maine families. Thank you for helping to end hunger in Maine.
