Home in Orland likely a total loss after fire

The building is still standing but uninhabitable and likely a total loss due to the heavy damage, according to the Orland Fire Department.

ORLAND, Maine — A home in Orland has been left uninhabitable after a fire Friday afternoon.

It happened on Castine Road shortly before 1 p.m., according to a social media post by the Orland Fire Department.

Fire departments from Orland, Penobscot, Castine, Blue Hill, and Bucksport responded to the scene, and the Brooksville,  Brooklin, Deer Isle, and Stonington fire departments provided station coverage. A Hancock County sheriff's deputy who happened to be passing by also provided some timely help, according to the Orland Fire Department.

"The cooperation between our departments was once again top notch with everyone working together [seamlessly] for several hours," the department said.

The building is still standing but uninhabitable and likely a total loss due to the heavy damage, according to the fire department.

"Once we cleared the scene, we had another hour or two of work cleaning equipment, hose, air packs, and turnout gear to return everything to service and ready for the next call," the fire department said in its social media post. "Overall we worked for about 4 1/2 hours, and firefighters will be making several trips to the station over the next day or so to get gear washed and dried."
