SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A Louisiana woman was brought to the hospital and later died after Scarborough police responded to a second serious crash in the area of Payne Road within 24 hours.

Just before 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to a serious crash after a driving complaint was received for a vehicle on Gorham Road headed toward Payne Road, according to a news release from the Scarborough Police Department.

Police said the single occupant of the vehicle was found injured and brought to the hospital.

In an updated release Monday, police said the driver died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver has been identified as 38-year-old Megan Plowden, of Abbeville, Louisiana.

Scarborough emergency crews also responded to the scene.

Traffic delays were expected due to the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

In a separate crash just after noon on Saturday, another female driver was pronounced dead after striking a rock and utility pole on Payne Road in a high-speed incident. That investigation is ongoing.

No further details have been released.
