1 dead, 2 others injured in Winthrop crash

Two vehicles crashed on Route 202 at the intersection of Royal Street.

WINTHROP, Maine — One person died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 202 in Winthrop, according to the Winthrop Police Department.

On Sunday around 4:30p.m., Justin Mason of Monmouth, was heading west on Route 202, when another vehicle, driven by Mariah St. Laurent of Leeds, was driving east. St. Laurent was slowing to make a left turn onto Royal Street when the crash occurred, according to police.

Mason, 28, died at the scene, and his passenger was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. St. Laurent, 41, suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and was transported to Maine General in Augusta.

Winthrop police are investigating the crash, with assistance from Monmouth police and Maine State Police. The Kennebec-Somerset District Attorney's Office has also been notified, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call Winthrop PD at 207-377-7226.
