NEWPORT (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- At 1 a.m. on Thursday in Newport a 27-year-old was shot in the leg.
The incident began at midnight with a disorderly conduct call involving baseball bats at a party. Newport Police Chief Leonard Macdaid and officer Jesse Gee arrested 18-year-old Nathan Wheeler at gunpoint without incident.
The injured man was brought to a Bangor hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.
Wheeler was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated reckless conduct and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
Newport Police received help from multiple other agencies, and they were able to confiscate the weapon, so there is no threat to the public.
