Shooting of woman in arm categorized by police as domestic violence

SOUTHPORT (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A gunshot to the arm was the most severe injury to come of a fight between three people in Southport.

The 24-year-old woman who was shot arrived by LifeFlight at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment. Police said the injury to her right arm was not life-threatening.

A 38-year-old man also went to the LincolnHealth Miles Campus in Damariscotta with injuries described by police as non-life-threatening that he received from a physical dispute.

Police said 34-year-old Allan Wigglesworth of Thomaston was the cause of their injuries. Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office arrested him with help from Boothbay Harbor Police. Wigglesworth is charged with elevated aggravated assault, aggravated assault and aggravated criminal trespass with more charges possible, according to police.

Police arrived at 3 Church Street in Southport after being told that a fight at the home had escalated into gunfire around 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 21. Police said they took possession of the .22 caliber rifle that Wigglesworth used in the shooting.

Because all the participants were known to each other and due additionally to a relationship between Wigglesworth and the woman, police said the case is an isolated incident falling under the heading of domestic violence.
