OLD TOWN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Old Town Fuel and Fiber announced Thursday that the mill operations will be "indefinitely suspended."
Two-hundred Old Town Fuel and Fiber employees will be furloughed because of the mill shutdown. The company said foreign competition and high wood and energy costs have made it difficult to continue operations. The company said they will pursue options to secure viability of the facility.
One laid off mill worker said he saw the furlough coming when "they drained the white liquor pipe last night" in the mill. Only a few workers will be kept on help maintain the building.
