BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The man known as the North Pond Hermit does not owe State Police restitution after a decision was made by the Maine Supreme Court.
Christopher Knight was living alone in the woods near Rome and Smithfield for 27 years surviving by breaking into camps and stealing food and necessities.
He eventually served time for burglary and theft, Knight was also ordered to pay Maine State Police over $1,000 for a road police had to build during their investigation of him.
Knights attorney took the issue to the Supreme Court and won.
