YARMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The 49th Yarmouth Clam Festival is under way.
More than 100 thousand visitors are expected to attend, which is big boost for the local businesses providing all of the clams, pies and treats.
More than 6,000 pounds of clams, 6,000 lobster rolls and 6,000 strawberry shortcakes are expected to be eaten. And to wash them all down... 13,500 Lime Rickeys.
"The mission of the festival of course is to raise money for the 40-43 non-profits in town and that mission has really evolved over time," said Asst. Director Ben McNaboe.
This year instead of just one booth, North Yarmouth Academy has two booths which it hopes will bring in $5,000-6,000 for the school's expansion.
