SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Another restaurant closes in South Portland.
Patrons arrived to locked doors at Newick's Lobster House on Wednesday.
A sign taped to the door said, "Newick's South Portland is closed. Gift cards are accepted at all other locations. Thank you for your patronage and we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience."
Newick's restaurants in Dover, NH and Concord, NH are on the website, but no sign of their South Portland branch anywhere on the website: http://www.newicks.com/
It is the second time in two weeks that a restaurant has closed unexpectedly in South Portland. Wild Willy's Burgers shutdown last week.
Marcelle Garrivan and her family frequent the seafood restaurant on holidays, expecting to celebrate her sister's birthday at Newick's on Wednesday.
"I am surprised because I didn't know anything about it," Garrivan said. "I come in and check the door and it says open from 11 to 9, and it was closed. I am disappointed, you know. But what are you going do."
The original Cap'n Newick's restaurant opened in 1979 on Broadway in South Portland. The business closed in 2007, but reopened a short time later as Newick's Lobster House near the Maine Mall.
