PORTLAND, Maine — Maine’s Republican senator is encouraging seniors to make use of a new tool provided by the Social Security Administration to report scammers.
Sen. Susan Collins says the new portal allows consumers to report Social Security impostors. She says the data will help the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General with information to help track down people who participate in the scams.
Collins called for the Social Security Administration to beef up its response to scams in October. The scam in question involves criminals who call residents while impersonating Social Security staff and try to extract personal information from victims.
