TRENTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An announcement by Elite Airways on Friday, will mark the first ever commercial jet service at Hancock County Bar Harbor Airport.
This move will allow passengers to travel direct between Portland and Newark New Jersey as well as continuing service to Vero Beach Florida and Long Island Islip.
This will improve service for those both in and outside of the Bar Harbor area giving those travelers another option
Airport Manager Brad Madeira said he is excited to welcome their newest carrier.
In a statement Madeira said "This service opens up new air travel options for our community and also for the many visitors from all around the world who visit Acadia National Park every summer. The combination of affordable fares, short hassle free security lines, excellent customer service, free parking, and immediate access to Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor..."
Flights to Portland start at $79 each way and to Newark $99 each way.
"It's the first regional jet service that this airports ever had so that's really exciting, and it's offering a new destination for people to get down to the New York and it compliments our existing carriers that go to Boston" said Airport Manager Brad Madeira.
The first Elite Airways flight will be arriving Friday afternoon. There will also be a press conference.
