ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- It's no secret that the internet and smartphone apps have changed the way we do things on a daily basis, now they are changing the way people handle snow storms.
The smartphone apps 'Shovler' and 'Yeti: On-Demand Snow-Shoveling' are helping people clean up after winter storms. They both work like the app 'UBER'. Just download them, put in your address and the service you are requesting and someone will be at your place within the time frame you request. 'Shovler' allows you to request someone to come out to shovel or plow your driveway, business lot or sidewalk for a fee. The size will determine the cost.
The 'Yeti' app is specifically for people looking to have their cars shoveled out after a storm.
Right now Boston is the closest place you are able to use the apps, but Mainers seem to be on board with the idea.
"It would all matter like what time it was snowing," Ellsworth resident James Sillia said. "Because when you need to shovel at like 4 a.m. I would be on that app."
"It would be good though for old people or people like dad who just had surgery," Aaron Sillia said. "Because if I wasn't home and if you weren't home he would be kind screwed."
If you're in high school or middle school, 'Snow Day Calculator' is all the rage. The app and website gives you a prediction on whether or not you will have a snow day.
"It's one of the greatest tools online to see whether or not you're going to go to school tomorrow," South Portland high school student Andrew Varapatis said. "I probably check it 8, 9, 10 times a day when I know there's a storm coming because lets be honest, I don't really want to go to school the next day."
All you have to do is enter your zip code, how many snow days you've had this year and the type of school whether it be public or private. Hit submit and it tells you how much of a chance you have to sleep in or not.
