MORRILL, Maine — A Belmont man died Wednesday morning in Morrill after police say he crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a loaded dump truck. The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. on Route 3.
Maine State Police identified the driver who died as Nicholas Day, 34, of Belmont.
According to police, the dump truck driver, Eugene Hyde, 31, of Wilton, sustained minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital. There was no rollover, police say. The truck is owned and operated by C.H. Stevenson out of Wayne.
Maine State Police say the investigation is ongoing, but say speed and alcohol don't appear to be factors.
Route 3 was shut down for eight hours as police investigated and cleaned up the scene. Local fire departments helped reroute traffic.
