WATERVILLE, Maine — It was special day for Thomas College graduates as they earned their long awaited degrees. The ceremony, in the Alfond Athletic Center on the Thomas campus in Waterville, was the 125th commencement ceremony in the school's history.
The day was even more special for a unique pair of graduates, a mother and son. Alex Knight and his mother Lisa Knight both received degrees at the ceremony on Saturday. Alex earned a bachelors degree in political science, and Lisa earned her masters in human resources.
"I'm just so grateful and humbled that I can share this day with him," said Lisa Knight.
Lisa, who now works at Thomas College in the human resources department, first earned her undergraduate degree from Husson College, now known as Husson University, 30 years ago.
"I'd come up and she'd be freaking out about an assignment due and she'd be asking me for help and I'd be like, welp... You're on your masters and I'm on my undergrad, this is beyond my level," said Alex.
They both shared that it was a unique experience, but one they are extremely glad they have had.
"I'm really proud and I really love her. I hope she acknowledges how big of an accomplishment it is for her," said Alex about his mother.
"I can't even put it into words. Just so, so proud. He's done amazing things and I just can't wait to see what he does with his future," said Lisa about her son Alex.
