BAR HARBOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) – A massive mansion overlooking Frenchman Bay is the most expensive home on the market in Maine right now with an asking price of $15.5 million.
"It's not the usual price tag you put on a home, but this isn't a usual home," Realtor Susan Ferrante-Collier said.
The fully-restored 15,000 square-foot home named East of Eden boasts eight bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and 14 fireplaces. It was built on the nine-acre waterfront property in 1907 by an heir of the Standard Oil Company.

Designed by renowned architect, Guy Lowelle, the historic mansion is unlike any property on Mount Desert Island with its stucco facade, terracotta roof and impeccable ornamentation.
The grand foyer with regal columns and pristine marble floors makes one feel like royalty while taking in the sweeping vistas of the bay.
"Unlike most homes of this era that are dark, this home is so light-filled," Ferrante-Collier said.
Nearly every element of the estate remains true to the original design from more than 100 years ago, with the addition of modern amenities. There are even furniture pieces original to the home, including the entire dining room set.
Both inside and out, the entire home is a place to entertain. There is even a unique, custom privacy door to close off the staircase to the upstairs for gatherings.
If that is not your style, the home is still cozy enough for a small family to sit on the veranda and watch the sunrise over breakfast.
