2016 Maine app challenge winners

(NEWS CENTER) -- It's an annual challenge -- encouraging Maine students to develop a "mobile APP" that addresses a need within their school or community. The Maine App Challenge is put on by Tyler Technologies and the payoff is big, in the form of scholarship money!

First place winners: Caity Gaven and Corey Stailing, from South Portland High School.
Second place, Andrei Lougovtsov from Yarmouth High School
And third place was a tie between two teams.Peter Sachs, Leo O'Connor and Sam Randall from Freeport High School. and the other third place winner, Jessica Keast from Portland High School

First place: SoPo Recycles is a game that teaches users how to dispose of and recycle various items that are typically discarded in the trash.

Second place: Full Circle provides users a place to list and find volunteer opportunities in the community.

Third place: Freeport Fitness allows users to find places in Freeport to exercise and eat healthy as well as a place to track their fitness.

The Maine App Challenge is a scholarship contest that encourages students to develop a mobile application that addresses a need within their school or community. Tyler Technologies awarded $10,000 total in scholarships to contest finalists. The Maine App Challenge was developed in partnership with Educate Maine's Project>Login to encourage the next generation to pursue future careers in STEM-related disciplines
