ABBOT, Maine — A missing Abbot man was located deep in the woods Saturday night after he went for a walk on his property and did not return.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., 71-year-old Howard Weymouth went for a walk near his home in Abbot and did not return, according to a news release from Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti.
His family became concerned and began searching for Weymouth by following tracks in the snow behind his residence, Latti said. Their efforts were unsuccessful, and the Maine Warden Service was called.
Latti noted Weymouth has Alzheimer's.
The warden service began searching at 7:30 p.m. A game warden and a family member found new tracks "that appeared to be going in circles and backtracking over a mile and a half from [Weymouth's] house" deep in the woods, Latti said.
Weymouth was found at approximately 9:30 p.m. "still able to walk under his own power with assistance," and he was brought home safe to his family.
