Massachusetts man dies after being struck by tractor-trailer on Maine Turnpike in Kittery

State police said after crashing his vehicle, the 36-year-old walked into traffic on the Maine Turnpike and was struck by a tractor-trailer.

KITTERY, Maine — A Massachusetts man died Saturday morning after being struck by a tractor-trailer following a crash in Kittery on the Maine Turnpike.

At about 3:10 a.m., 36-year-old Chhoeunly Phoeung of Massachusetts was driving a Mazda CV5 southbound on the Maine Turnpike in Kittery when he left the roadway, the Maine State Police said in a news release.

Phoeung then struck several objects at the entrance of the state police weigh station, according to the release.

"After crashing his vehicle, Phoeung walked into traffic on the Turnpike and was struck by a tractor-trailer unit," the release stated.

Phoeung was taken by ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

State police are investigating.
