Man sentenced to 5 years for robbery, hitting mother w/ car

ALFRED, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The man convicted of running over his mother in their driveway and then leaving the scene has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Shane Jones, 27 formerly of Biddeford, was convicted of robbery, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and leaving the scene of an accident. Jones pleaded guilty to robbing the Big Apple convenience store with a knife and also to charges related to the Nov. 23 accident that resulted in the death of his mother, Kimberly Jones.

Police said that Kimberly Jones and Shane Jones had a fight last November, and Shane Jones accidentally struck his mother with his GMC truck. Kimberly Jones died from trauma to her head and chest. Jones had fled the scene and was located five days later in Sanford.

On Friday, Jones was sentenced to three years for the reckless conduct and leave the scene charges. For the robbery Jones was sentenced to ten years with all but two years suspended, along with three years of probation.

Jones is also prohibited from entering the Big Apple Store.
