ANDOVER, Maine — A Hanover man was killed by a tree while cutting and removing trees alone Thursday morning in the Oxford County town of Andover.
Sheriff's deputies were called at about 8:30 a.m. to South Main Street after a neighbor reported hearing a chainsaw idling, Oxford County Sheriff Christopher Wainwright said.
Mark Beaudoin, 53, a self-employed logger, was found unresponsive by the neighbor in a wooded area prior to the arrival of deputies and rescue personnel.
An investigation determined that Beaudoin was wearing all safety equipment and cutting trees alone when one tree fell back on him, killing him instantly, Oxford County Chief Deputy James Urquhart said in a release.
For eight years, Beaudoin was an instructor at Region 9 School of Applied Technology in Mexico, according to the school's director Brenda Gammon.
Gammon said she "couldn't say enough good things" about Beaudoin. She added he worked as a forestry and heavy equipment instructor.
After years of teaching, Gammon said Beaudoin left a lasting impact on not just students and staff, but the whole community.
