Man imprisoned at Maine State Prison dies at 50

The 50-year-old Waterville man began serving a 40-year sentence for murder, in addition to concurrent sentences for robbery and burglary, in 1997.

WARREN, Maine — The Maine Department of Corrections announced Friday the death of an incarcerated individual.

Stephen Lee, 50, of Waterville, who was serving a sentence at Maine State Prison, died shortly before 11:30 a.m. Friday, the department said in a news release.

The department said Lee's death was attended by medical personnel but did not give details as to how he died.

Lee began serving a 40-year sentence for murder, in addition to concurrent sentences for robbery and burglary, in 1997. His earliest possible release date was in June 2032, according to the release.

Consistent with policy, the department said the attorney general's office and state medical examiner were notified of the death.
