Man, 86, dies in Monroe house fire

On Sunday evening, firefighters arrived at 238 Clements Rd. and called the state fire marshal's office when they believed someone had perished inside.

MONROE, Maine — The Monroe Fire Department found adult remains after responding to a house fire at 238 Clements Rd. in Monroe on Sunday evening.

At about 7:40 p.m., firefighters arrived at the scene and contacted the Office of State Fire Marshal because they believed someone inside the residence had died as a result of the fire, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release Monday.

Investigators with the state fire marshal's office arrived at the scene and located the remains of a deceased adult. The remains were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, according to the release.

The deceased is believed to be the sole resident of the home, 86-year-old Alan Grover, the release stated. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Monroe Fire Department was assisted at the scene by fire departments from Brooks, Jackson, and West Frankfort, Brooks Ambulance, and the Maine State Police.

No additional information was released.
