ID=9491187ID=9491169VASSALBORO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- 50 new police officers graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Friday.

The new officers will fill the ranks of state, local and county law enforcement as well as the Warden Service and Marine Patrol.

"I'd like to be respected by my community," said Winslow Police Officer Alexander Jones. "An officer someone can count on."

In their thoughts was fallen officer Stephen Arkell, who was killed last week during a domestic dispute in New Hampshire... As well as the men and women honored at the Maine Fallen Officers memorial, last week.

Director John Rogers says he has one goal at the academy.

"It is to never ever put another name on that tomb stone in Augusta," Rogers said. "To properly train officers here at the B.L.E.T.P. so well that they never forget what they've learned and that they never get killed in the line of duty."

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said many of the new officers will begin patrolling this holiday weekend.
