Maine warden pilot placed on leave following arrest at Bangor concert

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — The Maine Warden Service has placed one of its own members on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation following a recent incident at Bangor concert.

Bangor police arrested warden pilot Charles Later of Shirley last Friday night at a Bangor Waterfront show after they said he was being combative.

Police charged him with assault on an officer, refusal to submit to arrest, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

Officials said the 58-year-old worked specifically as a pilot for the service.

"Our game wardens, like all law enforcement professionals, are held to a very high standard of conduct," said Col. Joel Wilkinson, chief of the Maine Warden Service. "[The service] has begun its own internal investigation concerning this weekend's incident involving [Later] to ensure that appropriate action is taken."

The Maine Warden Service said details concerning the incident are not available for public dissemination, which they said is standard protocol for investigations of this nature.

Bangor PD is also conducting its own investigation.

The Sept. 2 show featured Sammy Kershaw and Rowdy Yates.
