HANCOCK, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating after a fire tanker truck rolled over following a reported mechanical issue while responding to a call on Tuesday.

Just before 3:30 p.m., the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department was called to Oxen Meadow Road in Franklin for a "grass/forest fire" when their responding Ford L8000 tanker rolled over while turning onto Franklin Road from Route 1, according to a news release from the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department.

The driver of the tanker truck reported the brake system failed while they were turning, "which likely contributed to the accident," the department said in the release.

"The driver sustained minor bruises and declined transport after being checked out by Sullivan Fire & Rescue," according to the department.

Maine State Police are investigating the incident. The Hancock County Sheriff's Office, Sullivan Fire & Rescue, and personnel from the Winter Harbor Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
