Maine prioritizing help for new farmers at annual trade show

The Maine Agricultural Trades Show is scheduled to take place at Augusta Civic Center, from Jan. 14 to 16.

AUGUSTA, Maine — The organizers of the Maine Agricultural Trades Show say this year's event will prioritize helping new farmers get on their feet in the business.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension said the Beginning Farmer Resource Network will host free workshops and offer consultation at the event, which is scheduled for Jan. 14 to 16.

The network is a group of Maine agricultural agencies. Cooperative extension associate professor Tori Lee Jackson said new farmers know “there is no instruction manual for the first decade in agriculture.”
