One of the longest-running annual traditions in Aroostook County kicked off this weekend.
The Maine Potato Blossom Festival is celebrating 70 years.
"It's a celebration of the agricultural background of the community," Wayne Troicke, Director of the Frontier Historical Society, said.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the festival throughout the week. Running until Sunday, July 16, this year's lineup boasts more than 100 events.
The festival parade is one of the premier events that take place Saturday. The celebration culminates with a firework show next Sunday.
Potatoes are northern Maine's main agricultural product. During World War II, it lead the nation in potato production.
