SOPER MOUNTAIN TOWNSHIP, Maine (AP) - Maine is ready to take registrations from nature buffs who want to set up camp in the state's vast rural north along the Allagash Wilderness Waterway this winter.

The state starts taking registrations on Saturday. The wilderness waterway is a 92-mile ribbon containing lakes, ponds and rivers through that stretches through commercial forests.

There will be 48 campsites available on a first-come, first served basis. Registration for the campgrounds takes place starting at 8 a.m. at the Chamberlain Bridge ranger station in Piscataquis County.

The Allagash Wilderness Waterway is part of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry's Bureau of Parks and Lands.
