AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Speaker of the House Mark Eves of North Berwick was slated to join industry experts to release a new report on Maine's growing need for affordable senior housing on Monday.

Due to the weather the event will be postponed until further notice.

As part of his "KeepME Home" plan to help seniors live independently in their homes and communities, Eves has proposed a $65 million bond to create 1,000 units of energy-efficient affordable housing for seniors in all 16 counties of the state.

"The Keep ME Home bond will address a dire need for affordable senior housing across our state," said Speaker Eves. "It will also help create good housing and construction jobs in every county in the state. It's a win for seniors and our economy."

The proposal has garnered bipartisan support and will be co-sponsored by Republican State Senator David Burns of Whiting, who also co-chairs the bipartisan aging caucus with Eves.
