MATTAWAMKEAG, Maine — A Mattawamkeag man was found safe Thursday after he reportedly wandered from his home Wednesday night.
Scott Wing, 67, was reported missing by his son shortly before midnight Wednesday, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti said Thursday in a news release. According to the release, Wing has dementia.
Maine game wardens and the deputies with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office searched unsuccessfully in the area overnight, so they brought in two game warden dogs at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday to aid in the search.
K9 Gordon reportedly picked up a scent along the edge of the woods on River Road, which he and Maine Game Warden Preston Pomerleau followed into the woods, and they found Wing more than one-third of a mile from his home, the release stated.
"Wing was coherent and able to talk but was weak and unable to stand, covered in bug bites, and he was missing a slipper," Latti said.
Pomerleau was eventually able to walk Wing out of the woods with some assistance, and he did not need further medical attention, according to the release.
