MacCalister pleads guilty in fatal supermarket stabbing

Connor MacCalister, the Maine woman charged with fatally stabbing another woman in a Maine supermarket, has formally plead guilty in court Thursday.
Connor MacCalister made his first court appearance Friday for the murder of Wendy Boudreau.

Editors Note: MacCalister was born female, but then identified as male. But in court on Thursday she has asked the court to refer to her as a female. NEWS CENTER will now be using the female pronoun when referring to Connor MacCalister.

ALFRED, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Connor MacCalister, the Maine woman charged with fatally stabbing another woman in a Maine supermarket, has pleaded guilty to murder.

In court, MacCalister requested a life sentence, telling the judge she was competent to make the decision. The judge has accepted her guilty plea and will hand down the sentence on November 23.

MacCalister's attorney says she takes full responsibility and wants to make this process as easy as possible for the Boudreau family.

Two evaluations were completed to make sure MacCalister was competent.

MacCalister's attorney says under bar rules; he has to argue for whatever sentence his client wants. The sentence, in this case, would be life for MacCalister.

When asked about gender, attorney says MacCalister stopped taking testosterone since she has been behind bars and halted her transition.

A state prosecutor says by pleading so early it does keep the family from having to go through a drawn out trial.

MacCalister was suppose to appear in court Thursday for an arraignment, but instead entered the guilty plea, against the advisement of her attorney.

According to investigators, MacCalister went to the Shaw's supermarket in Saco with the intent to kill several people. Police said MacCalister targeted 59-year old Wendy Boudreau in the parking lot because she looked like she wouldn't resist. Police said she then followed her into the store, approached her from behind and cut her throat.

MacCalister's attorney said his client has had only a limited psychiatric evaluation and for the most part has resisted in participating in them.
