LISBON, Maine — Lisbon residents woke up earlier this week to quite the surprise. Several properties, commercial and residential, were vandalized with red spray paint.
"We got up on Tuesday morning, and my wife came out to go to work a few minutes before I did, and she came right back into the house and said, 'Somebody painted the front door,'" Steve Yenco, whose home was vandalized, said.
Lisbon police said their investigation includes reports of similar vandalism to private, public, and municipal properties.
Lt. Jeffrey Picard said the department received several complaints Tuesday morning about the vandalism, which police suspect happened overnight Monday or in the early morning hours.
Yenco said police told him that kids or teens were believed to be responsible.
“It’s a good neighborhood," Yenco told NEWS CENTER Maine. "It’s just kind of disappointing having something like this happen.”
Sippy Cup Consignment, not far from his house, was also hit.
"I was angry, disappointed," shop owner Laura Yergin said. "You don't expect things like this to happen in Lisbon."
Yergin said the recent acts don't reflect the town's values.
"Lisbon is a close-knit community and rallies with everybody,” she added.
Yergin went on to say she planned on leaving the spray paint until those responsible can come up and clean it.
Meanwhile, Yenco said he will try to clean the vandalism off his home.
“We’ll just have to repaint it if it doesn’t come off,” he said.
Lisbon police ask community members to check surveillance cameras for any recent suspicious activity or persons. Police also ask that anyone with information about the incidents to contact Detective Chris Sibley at 207-353-2500.
