Limerick man arrested for allegedly stealing, selling father's skidder, tractor

Justin Nichols

LIMERICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — A man from Limerick was arrested Sunday morning for felony theft after allegedly stealing and then selling his father's farming equipment worth an estimated $10,000 or more.

Justin Nichols, 31, was charged with Class C theft and violating conditions of release. He was on conditions of release due to an earlier arrest for another theft.

The York County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Jason Solomon noticed heavy equipment missing from a local farm while patrolling Limerick earlier this week — specifically, a heavy duty logging skidder and an all-terrain tractor.

Deputy Solomon was aware the property's owner had been incapacitated due to health problems and suspected the property may have been stolen. He contacted the property owner's daughter who confirmed the equipment had been stolen and suspected her brother may have removed the property without permission.

Solomon met with Nichols Sunday morning where Nichols confirmed he sold his father's property to another farmer in Newfield and also confirmed he did not have permission to sell the equipment.

Nichols has no bail and has a video arraignment scheduled for Monday.

Deputy Solomon contacted the person who purchased the property and was able to recover the equipment.
