MAINE, USA — Towns and cities across the state are coming together to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month this June.
What is 'Pride'?
Pride Month is a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals and honors the history of the LGBTQ+ community.
According to the Library of Congress, the first Pride march was held on June 28, 1970, one year after the Stonewall Uprising, which was a "tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States."
To celebrate Pride this year, many Maine communities are holding parades, events, and celebrations throughout the state.
